Grounding or earthing is simply walking barefoot on a sandy ground, grass or putting your legs inside the water when you go to the beach.
Studies have shown that walking barefoot holds several health benefits such as regulating your sleeping pattern, stress relief and inflammation reduction. It also restores our balance when we walk, which could help with pain relief.

There are several ways through which we can connect to the earth. Here are some of them:
- Walking barefoot allows our skin to connect to the earth and revives our senses, this is one of the easiest ways to practise grounding.
- You can also connect to the earth by laying down on the ground. Remember we did this a lot when we were younger.
- Some of us that live in the rural areas would remember taking a dip in the river in the village and how refreshing it was. This is also grounding.
While grounding is very simple and good for our health, we also have to think about keeping our feet safe, because when we start walking barefoot, chances are that our feet will become dirty or we may be at risk of sustaining a minor injury. Therefore, after walking we need to take care of our feet by making sure that they are clean and dry so as to prevent athletes’ foot or any fungal nail infection.
Finally, In the event that you are new to grounding, please start slowly with walking barefoot for a short period of 15 to 20 minutes to allow your feet and ankles build up strength and resistance to the outside surface.
