Having a good night’s sleep helps us to wake up fresh and full of energy to face the new day. But with the pandemic a lot of people find it hard to sleep while others sleep too much. And more often than not, we don’t get to monitor our sleeping pattern until it affects our health physically, emotionally and mentally.

Sleeping is a healing mechanism that can help us age gracefully and maintain sound health. It helps us to manage our general well-being. Among other things, sleeping well can reduce the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. It can also help in the prevention of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

We’ve heard a lot about not having enough sleep but oversleeping also has its own problems. Studies have shown that while insufficient sleep can be linked to diabetes, oversleeping can also have similar effect.

It has also been found that:

  • People that sleep more than they should might be suffering from anxiety and depression.
  • Putting on weight and becoming obese can be the result of oversleeping. So, apart from exercise and appropriate diet, monitoring our sleeping pattern is also important for people looking to lose weight.
  • When we sleep too much we might wake up tired or having a very bad headache.

As we go on our aging journey it is very important that we monitor our sleeping pattern. Sleeping too much during menopause will not help you, it will only make it worse.
